Epstein “Blows the House Down”
To Bring In the New Year!

The Epstein School celebrated Rosh Hashana  at the school’s  celebratory assembly with prayer, stories, songs, dance and food.   S tudents also marked this holiday by dipping apples in honey, baking honey cakes, and learning about teshuvah- “returning” or getting back on the right track.    It is a time to look at ones mistakes, ask for forgiveness, and start over….an internal and spiritual cleansing process.

Students, faculty and staff greeted each other with “L’ Shana Tova,” or Happy New Year.  The blowing of the shofar which is a symbol of awakening, and the beginning of a new year, also served as a reminder that they continue traditions and a heritage that is thousands of years old.   At The Epstein School’s Rosh Hashana assembly shofars were blown aplenty.   In fact, these students blew everyone away!

Head of School Stan Beiner told a touching story, which reflected the important message of putting ego aside and giving to others.   As is a hallmark of the Epstein School, no celebration is complete without student celebration and entertainment!

Dressed in white shirts to represent purity and cleansing of sins, Epstein students sang holiday songs.   Each grade level had an opportunity to sing in front of the entire student body, as well as faculty and staff.

Epstein Middle School girls garbed in colorful clothing, gave a beautiful performance of Israeli progressive line dance.   In addition, delicious apples and sweet honey were given out to all the faculty and staff courtesy of the Epstein PTO (Parent Teacher Organization).   Delicious warm, freshly-baked challah bread was served.   It was evident that everyone at The Epstein School enjoyed the spirit of renewal and reflection that this High Holiday brings!
